VIVASONAR

Virtualising nature through sound

A patch driven environmental noise generator, taking readings from a domestic natural dwelling.

About - VivaSonar communicates to you about your environment, with a twinge of fantasy from the corners of the imagination. The music you hear and the coloured LEDs change based on the temperature from cold blues to hot reds. Too much light will trigger hissing from invisible creatures unhappy to be disturbed, and whistling into the microphone will translate into birdsong that blends into the soundscape.

It's a space that encourages listeners to find sanctuary amongst nature. It's an insight into a curious mind with the hope to nurture the curiousity in others.

GENE POOL

Genre bending band of 5 core members and 3 backing vocalists

“Gene Pool have an ability to cast a dark spell on the listener. Their music is wistful & melancholic yet there’s a real edge to it. They list a wide range of influences but don’t really sound like any of them, doing what the best artists do & forging these influences into something that is uniquely their own. They may still be quite a young group but they show more musical sophistication, nuance & innovation than some artists have managed to muster in an entire career.” - The VPME

P6.AV1

P6 University Project

Generating a loop based sound scape based on the colour composition of a video. The audio in turn, creates video effects to feed back to the original clip.

DAILY WINDS

Audio Walk

I stitched together snippets of audio from collaborators on the Flo Brookes Daily Winds Audio Walk. I generated some transition audio for each segment too.

WITNESS STAND

A series of performances in response to a commission.

In May 2022, Gene Pool was selected to curate performance pieces in response to two sites, The West Pier and Brighton Marina. This was a part of the Witness Stand commissioned by Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey. Themes of the past and future, stories of the city were to be expressed in sound, we focused on creating harmony with each site, infusing all of our experiences with the heritage of the area.
